Yearbook Testimonials – Crystal Zhang

To me, life skills are a wide range of skills that go from being able to interact with other people or just skills that will be helpful in the future such as being able to take quality pictures, managing time, and speaking in public. From yearbook, I have learned that you must be able to work and communicate well with others. It is impossible to create a whole yearbook on your own. Just a page needs a whole team of help. Through making many spreads throughout the yearbook, I not only learned to communicate with others and lead a team, I also made great friends in yearbook class. Along with communicating with the people in our class, I also communicated with many random people in the school. I learned how to talk to people, ask important questions, and get straight to the point. These life skills will benefit my future because I will always have to talk to people and work with others, no matter what I choose to be. Photography and writing will be relevant in the future as well. In English class, I will always have to write. As I travel too, it’s important that I take good pictures to look back on the memories. I have learned journalism skills through editing many photos to go in the book and making decisions about the design of the book, such as if the font size looks good in relation to the size of the photo. Reporting and talking to people are also important journalism skills. Like what I said with life skills, I learned to get straight to the point when interviewing or talking to people, which will be important in the future if I’m going to a job interview. I learned business skills through distributing the books and creating ads. I learned to appeal to the customer. If I want to sell a product in the future, I should make interesting ads to make the customer buy my product. Through using Yearbook Avenue and Photoshop, I learned technology skills. Having these skills means using technology to make a job easier and being able to make quality content with the technology or resources you have available to you. People are constantly creating new technology, so being able to learn to use this technology will make our lives easier, especially in the future. New technology can relate to any job, so I can learn how to use these new resources in whatever career I choose to have.

I am proud of many of the sports spreads I did this year, but I am especially proud of the varsity cheer page. The pictures and stories on that page are some of my best work and things that I spent lots of time on. I am proud of the pictures I was able to take with the knowledge I learned about photography during yearbook class. I went to many games to capture moments and stunts, like the perfect moment during a toe touch basket. I made sure the lighting looked good and took pictures from different angles to make the photos look their best. I spent time using Photoshop to make COBs and edit photos. Seeing it in person in the yearbook made the amount of time and work that went into it worth it because the outcome is something that I am truly proud of.
