Countless times has the Desert Vista Track and Field team brought the pain to the City and State Track meets. Hard work and dedication is the fuel that has driven them once again to the same place that is seemingly probable for them. There have been drastic changes made at practices to help prepare them for their upcoming state meet.
Senior Anders Battle explained how practices intensified because of the meet.
“Well, you see there is a lot more close range action going. More aerobic exercises and planks are being done to keep our core strong,” he said.
As the state meet neared, so did the teams rewards for their efforts. Senior Lindsay Jantzi said coaches encouraged them to keep working towards their goal.
“We should be done making deposits in the bank,” she explained. “Its time that we start withdrawing.”
Over the entire season, the track team had to work harder than most to reach their progress. They were expected to use those skills when it mattered most. The state meet required that everyone came prepared for a battle of the fittest.
“I get more focused and try to use all the things that I have learned from practices,” said Jantzi.
Its not al about running as fast as you can. There are small things that are the most important.
“ Stretching, is the key to our success, plus our coaches force us to do it,” said Jantzi.
Final result of the state track meet were 3rd in place, but the Thunder is proud of the outcome for their hard work.
