They say that even in the darkest hours, the light shines through the darkest shadows. As we all know the DV football has been encountering brutal teams one after another. But shockingly, two teams where booted from the playoffs for illegal recruiting for their schools team. When those two teams where reported out of the playoffs, this opened the doors for our Thunder to be apart of the 2009 AIA playoffs.
Desert Vista` s fighting football team has a rough schedule down the road. A new 5a division alignment was created with the toughest teams including our Thunder football teams. The Thunder kicked off the season against Tucson High and won 25-0 with the first game out of the picture out of the way. The team’s focus shifted to preparing for Pinnacle High School. This being the final year for the seniors, they have hopes of going out with a bang.
The coaching staffs all agree with the fact that the schedule is a tough one but a great one. “I feel good about our schedule and its good competition,” said Sophomore Austin Mclinton. The Thunder had a long road ahead with many challenges but competition may not just be a main factor.
From past relations the Thunder received an early boot from the playoffs with a sudden loss to Highland. The Thunder program put this team through grueling summer workouts and it has only been for the best.
“ I believe that our team is the better one and that we have worked harder and will continue so that we can be the best period,” said Mclinton. With accommodations to all the coaching factors and Coach Christofis as the weight training coach, the Thunder stood proudly working to achieve their goal.
Being as it is for the seniors, their last season, they all wanted a perfect season.
“We want to win state championship, we shed more tears and hard worked blood then any other team out there in our division, ” said Mclinton. With the great coaches along for the ride the Thunder can do as many things as they posses in their arsenal.
