BROOKE: Today on this Friday January 13^th…the hard work of many was showcased this morning during the first assembly of the 2012 year…including amazing performances by DV dance and cheer.

BROOKE: I’m Brooke Serack thanks for joining us…this is DVTV.

BROOKE: The Boys soccer teams were on fire last week in two games coming back from Winter break! They dominated… back to back… against the Mesa Jack Rabbits and the Dobson Mustangs. In last night’s games the boys crushed Corona with a second half goal by Karsten Colin. They are now 9 and 2 for the season.

BROOKE: The DV girl’s soccer team has also been on fire with another win over Corona last night! The varsity beat Corona 2-1, in a physical battle and JV was victorious with a 4-0 win! Way to go girls. Come cheer on the Thunder next Wednesday against Casa Grande and Thursday vs Dobson…both games are at home!

BROOKE: It’s that time again to show Mountain Pointe who runs tukee. The boy’s basketball team will be playing Mountain Pointe at Mountain Pointe tonight. The 15 to 3 record girls will also be taking on the pride tonight…at home. It’s a white out, so come out and show your spirit as the basketball teams crush the pride.

BROOKE: As you pass from class to class…through the halls of Desert Vista…you may notice some new equipment hanging on the walls. Gabby Newell got the scoop on the new defibrillators on campus and how they some day might help save a life. Take a look.

BROOKE: Come join SPICE for an afternoon of Bollywood fun this afternoon. They will be watching Dostana in Mrs. Corcoran’s room… C270… from 3:30- 5:00. Delicious Indian food will be served, so come immerse yourself in Indian Culture.

BROOKE: Ahwatukee Relay 4 Life… the organization that raised roughly 147,000 dollars last year to fight cancer…is having its annual kick-off on next Wednesday at 7pm in the Mountain Pointe Cafeteria. In order to celebrate the start-up of Relay… Desert Vista will be having a mini spirit week.

BROOKE: Next Tuesday will be Harry Potter Day … it is time to grab your wands and “Spread the Magic of Relay.” Wednesday…in coordination with this year’s Relay theme…. it is “Once Upon a Relay Day” dress as your favorite movie or book character! And Thursday will be a purple out!

BROOKE: DV is home to great students and amazing teachers…including honors biology and biotechnology teacher Mrs. Musheno… made an appearance on PBS Channel 8 this week…where she spoke about being named the Innovative teacher of the year. Take a look at some of the highlights.

A bus will leave the DV parking lot right after graduation and transport you to the F1 Raceway.

BROOKE: Today on this Friday January 6^th, 2011… lines are staggered outside of the bookstore and students rush to change their schedules… gather textbooks, and purchase some DV swag. The lines are extra long this week after break since our bookstore manager is enjoying some well-earned time off.

BROOKE: I’m Brooke Serack thanks for joining us…this is DVTV. Welcome back from break! We hope you spent some quality time with your family and friends and rested up for the last half of the 2011-2012 school year.

BROOKE: For all girls interested in playing lacrosse… practices have begun! Please meet at Will Nolan field across from the LDS church on Frye Road every Monday through Thursday from 4 to 6pm.

BROOKE: There will be a boys tennis meeting on Monday afternoon at 3:30 in room C142. They will be discussing pre-season workouts. If you cannot make this meeting…please see Coach Brimley or Coach Boyarsky prior to Monday.

BROOKE: Poets, writers, and translators…the LIT 800 contest has been extended until two today. If you wish to enter…pick up a form from the Bookstore and turn it in with your submission.

BROOKE: Interested in dancing with DV Dance next year? Auditions are this week for the 2012-2013 school year. All are welcome to attend the workshops and the audition!

All incoming freshman and anyone that is trying out for the first time for must be at the dance room at five-50. The across the floor combo auditions will be held at the time.

And tomorrow…the auditions will be held for everyone trying out and will begin at 9:00 in the morning.

BROOKE: You may see some of their members strolling through the halls of Desert Vista… or you may pass by their practice after school… but do you really know the DV boys wrestling team?

Long, intense practices lead by Coach Matthews and Coach Gonzalez have prepared this team for a season of greatness. Despite their loss to Corona this past week… the team has been undefeated in their past 3 matches. They are currently at a tournament at Peoria High School today and tomorrow.

BROOKE: Show your support for the DV Boys Wrestling team on January 11^th as DV hosts Mesa at home!

BROOKE: Come out and support the DV Boys and Girls soccer teams today after school as they take on the Dobson Mustangs. Girls will be playing away at Dobson and the boys will be taking on Dobson at home. The undefeated JV girls play at 4 and Varsity plays at 6.

BROOKE: Get ready for another crazy basketball game this Friday! Come cheer on our boys as they take on Corona at the Storm Center. Varsity is at 7. And it’s a crazy socks out, so grab your craziest socks and get ready to see some Thunder domination!

BROOKE: KISS FM and the Maricopa Attorney Generals office will also be at the game. Visit the MCAO tent, right next to the court to sign a drug-free pledge. One of the pledges will be drawn at half-time, on the court, and will win an Apple iPad! Visit the High School Hoops table and make your pledge to stay drug free!

BROOKE: Asian Student Union is hosting a meeting on Monday after school next week for a New Years Celebration in room C-272!

BROOKE: The deadline for placing a Senior Ad in the 2012 Storm Yearbook has also been extended to Friday, January 13 due to winter break. BROOKE: DV Boys soccer continued their winning ways last night as well with a 1 to 0 win over Corona del Sol. Jack Abernathy scored a goal in the first half and the team carried out a good defensive performance to hold Corona the rest of the game. Catch DV Boys soccer tonight at 6pm as they play at Mesa.

BROOKE: And if you want to support that great team…visit Yoasis and support the DV Boy’s Soccer team…anytime from Sunday December 4th through Saturday, December 10th and the DV Men’s Soccer Team receives a portion of ALL sales made.

BROOKE: Today on this Monday, November 27th, 2011…an assembly honoring the incredible victory of our Varsity boys football team as well as our marching band…shook the large gym just moments ago…with performances by the wonderful DV dance team…cheer squads and speeches…all to celebrate the hard work DV puts into being the best in the state.

BROOKE: It is going to be a busy day today…starting with a very spirited pep assembly.

BROOKE: The celebration of DVs great triumphs will continue tonight with a barbecue…right here in the courtyard.

The Desert Vista Dancers present “The Polar Express” there will be two performances of this great presentations…the first will be tomorrow at 7pm…and then again on Friday at the same time.

BROOKE: Congratulations to the DV Women’s Soccer Teams for posting victories over Mountain Pointe last night. The JV won 2-0 thanks to goals by Hannah Gavin and Madison Woodmansee. The varsity was victorious with a decisive 2-0 victory with goals scored by Rachel Ressler and a PK by Kelly Watson.

BROOKE: DV Boys Soccer also crushed Mountain Pointe with a score of 2 to 0 in overtime. Goals for the team were scored by Cesar Sandoval and Jack Collier. Congratulations to both teams.

ELENA: Today on this Friday, September 30^th, 2011…One week and counting for fall break…even though we may be dragging there’s a weekend coming up

ELENA: I’m Elena Mendoza thanks for joining us…this is DVTV.

ELENA: Tonight the H building will be dedicated to former Desert Vista dance teacher Pamela Olsson. Eight years ago…

Olsson organized parents teachers and students to get funding for the project which includes two modern dance rooms with wooden floors… vaulted ceilings…wall mirrors and six classrooms that many of you may know as your language classrooms. The dedication will be held at 5pm.

ELENA: Tonight our Varsity boys will take on the Saguaro Sabercats at Saguaro. The game will be a superhero out.

Go out to Saguaro and show your support as this epic battle between two undefeated teams take place! As always tailgate starts 5:30 and kickoff starts at 7.

ELENA: And Saturday morning at 9am there will be a Freshmen football game against Brophy right here in the Thunder Stadium!

ELENA: Don’t forget…if you are scheduled to take the October SAT it is this Saturday right here at 7:45am. Don’t forget your testing materials!

ELENA: Do you love to read? If so, you should join the DV Book Club. Their very first meeting will be Monday at 3:20 p.m. in the Library!

ELENA: Desert Vista is sponsoring a Book Drive! We will be giving back to three schools in need in the Phoenix area. SAGE, StuCo, and TSTDC will be bringing you details about how we will help students in need across the valley!

Details are coming…get ready for an EPIC homeroom battle!

ELENA: Clay Club will be holding their annual Kosmik Bowling event this Saturday. Mr. Honaker along with the help of club members will be holding a bowl-making marathon from 9am until 4pm.

ELENA: Students, you can download the Hoopcoming Guest Pass from the School Fusion webpage. Guest Passes must be completed prior to receiving Ms. Bethea’s approval. Guest Pass deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 9th. No exceptions will be made!
CASSIE: The theme of the dance is “Hearts and Hoops”. The dance will be held on Friday, February 11th, immediately following the Boys Varsity Basketball game against the Red Mountain Lions! The game and dance will be a “Jersey Out.” Tickets are going on sale in the bookstore for $7.00 or you can buy them at the door for $10.00.
ELENA: Congratulations to both our boys and girls soccer teams as they both move on to State Quarterfinals. Quarterfinal games will be played on Saturday. Girls play at 11am at Red Mountain Soccer Complex versus Gilbert, and boys play at Reach 11 at noon versus Brophy. Come support our teams on their quest for gold!!
CASSIE: Today is our Boys Varsity Basketball game against the Chandler Wolves. We will be supporting our team as we sweat it out to an 80’s workout! Go grab your legwarmers and sweat bands so you can help cheer on another victory for our Thunder Boys!

CASSIE: Attention all Science Olympiad members. There will be a meeting today in Ms. Douglass’ room. They will be making rockets for the egg drop competition and distributing packets.
ELENA: Today is the last day to see the One Act plays, produced by TSTDC, and directed by some of DV’s own seniors. Come to the Black Box Theater at 4pm to see these awesome plays. Tickets are $5.00 at the door.

REBECCA: You can also contact Mrs. Musheno for more information about the annual USA Biology Olympiad exam that is coming to Desert Vista in February! If you are an outstanding biology student you may want to give it a try!

CASSIE: If you want to have fun, get extra credit in Spanish, or need community service hours, join Spanish club. They will be having their second semester kick off party next Wednesday, February 2^nd.

REBECCA: EVIT is throwing a colossal event and you are invited to attend. The EVIT Expo will be on Saturday, January 29 from 9:00am to 1 pm. They are hosting the official launch party of 90.7 RM – EVIT’s goldmine radio. At this event, you can meet with instructors, preview the 35 classes offered and find out how you can jump-start your career.

CASSIE: STAND will be hosting Dash for Darfur, tomorrow, January 29^th. It is a 5k run and fun walk to raise money to help end the conflict in Darfur. It costs 5 dollars to enter. You may pre-register at the bookstore or pay at the event itself. Pre-registration gives you a discount on a cool T-shirt. Come show your support, and help raise money to end genocide in Africa.

ELENA: Girls varsity basketball lost last night in a close game against red mountain. JV and freshmen saved the night and both took a victory. The final scores were Freshmen 54 to 18, JV 61 to 33, Varsity 47 to 51. Also in sports the last wrestling match for a lot of seniors at Brophy tomorrow. Come out and support your wrestlers

Why Just Dance?

In the words of famous meat-wearer, Lady Gaga: “Just Dance!” According to a recent DV poll, three out of five students had the popular game Just Dance on their holiday wish list. Just Dance is one of the most popular Wii games, and the sales performed strongly, becoming the most successful Wii release ever. As of December 2010, a total of 4.3 million games were sold worldwide. There are three game play modes. First is Classic mode, in which players pick any song and attempt to dance with the on-screen movement. Then there is Last One Standing mode, where players are eliminated if they don’t score enough points or mess up too many times. Last there’s Strike a Pose mode, where players start and stop dancing by following the on-screen dancer. Just Dance is a great way for students to have fun with friends, exercise, and learn great and fun dance moves. The popular Wii game holds some of the top songs all the way from Elvis Presley’s A Little Less Conversation-1968 to Britney Spears’ Womanizer-2008. And it doesn’t stop there. Just Dance 2 was released in November 2010 as an improved sequel of Just Dance. It has the same concept as the first edition, but there are four new dance modes: Just Dance, Non-stop Shuffle, Duets, and Just Sweat Mode. With new songs and new movements, Just Dance 2 is another big hit. Be on the look out for Just Dance 3, coming out soon in 2011.

“I love Just Dance! Even though only four people can play and get scored at a time, a bunch of people can still dance and follow the movements. So it’s a great way to have fun with tons of friends. I’ll have ten friends come over and we will spend hours and hours just dancing to the fun songs and just having a blast.
