BROOKE: Plenty of heroes in pink at the Varsity Football game last Friday…dressed to support breast cancer awareness…as Gabby Newell tells us…even the team was decked out in special colors.

BROOKE: Attention baseball players…workouts for freshman and sophomores that were scheduled for today have been moved to Thursday this week.

BROOKE: If you are on any Hockey team here at DV…don’t forget to go to the mandatory meeting today right after school in Ms. Goe’s room E112.

BROOKE: The game this Friday is themed “Welcome to the Jungle!” The game is at Corona and kick off is at 7!

BROOKE: Hey DV! It’s that time again for Blue and Gold Goes Green where we give you tips about ways to protect the environment. Commuting to school costs a lot of green… not only in dollars but in environment damages! Leaving your car at home 3 days a week could save up to 1,600 pounds of CO2 emissions per year!

BROOKE: The Freshman Class Council is holding its first car wash at Burger King this Saturday from 7:30 am -11am. Show them your support as they prepare for the Battle of the Bands this November!

CASSIE: The Key Club hosted the spring blood drive on Wednesday. Rebecca Caswell and Darby Bates have the scoop.

CASSIE: The blood drive was a great success. Thanks to all who put their time and effort into this event.

BROOKE: If you have not yet seen the spring musical Fiddler on the Roof, then come see it today at 4pm in the Dr. Joe McDonald Auditorium. This show is amazing thanks to the hard work of Kenny Fajman, Darlene Wedington-Clark, Bianca Caryl and their entire cast and crew. Tickets are $8 at the bookstore or $10 dollars at the door. Don’t miss out!

CASSIE: The prom on May 7th isn’t the only prom everyone is getting excited for. The kids in Special Education are having their prom, “New York, New York” at 7-10 at the Sheriton Hotel in Tempe. This event is going to be a great time for everyone involved.

BROOKE: Seniors listen up. Grad night is coming soon, so if you are interested in going you must sign up. Email DVGRADNIGHT11@gmail.com to get a grad night packet. If you don’t sign up you won’t have a chance to win one of the grand prizes such as iPads, a flat screen TVs, or a docking station to name a few. Check out the DV website for more information.

CASSIE: Graduation is just weeks away. These four years of high school seem to stretch on forever, but before you know it, high school will seem like a distant memory. Jake Hannigan, Jordan Young, and Adrien Nichols have the story on what some of DVs teachers were like in their teenage years.

CASSIE: Attention Students: If you need to attend a makeup or retest session for any of the Rio Salado Accuplacer Placement Tests, there will be make up test sessions before school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of next week. All test sessions will be held in the Library computer lab at 7:15 AM. The deadline to sign up is Today.  See Mrs. Hoffman after school in C-265 with your Maricopa Student ID number to sign up.  Remember to bring your Maricopa Student ID number and a picture ID to the actual test.

BROOKE: For those who regularly use the Library, mark your calendars because it will be closed after school, next week, on Tuesday May 3rd for a presentation to teachers and staff.  Students, please be sure to plan ahead. 

CASSIE: Spring Football practice officially starts on Monday May 2nd.  Practice will be Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30pm on the practice fields. If you wish to play football in the Fall and your Spring sport is finished, plan on attending. We will go for 3 weeks! Bring cleats, a grey shirt and blue shorts!

BROOKE: Today the internet can be used for everything from updating your Facebook status to checking your grades. But some people have found a more interesting use for the internet. Websites like Flikr, Tumblr and Etsy have made it possible for artists and creative minded people to easily post their work and ideas. We talked to two very different artists about how the internet has changed the way they share their art.The first of these artists is Sarah Gaston, a student with a passion for nature and an eye for photography. Second is blogger Ellie Craze who has found her calling on her popular blog, Oasis Child. Take a look.

CASSIE: Elena, relax, the prom committee has given DVTV another very special update on prom night 2011. Maybe this will help set the facts straight.

ELENA: Prom 2011 is definitely going to be a night to remember. But there are still many things happening before prom to get excited about. All next week is Spring Fling! To celebrate how sweet DV is, the theme of spring fling is candy. Monday is Baby Ruth, so come decked out in your sports wear. Check out this quick video so you can stay updated on the rest of the themes for spring fling.

CASSIE: Speaking of school spirit It’s that time of year again where politics takes center stage on campus.

CASSIE: Students interested in being class officers are learning what they have to do to become school leaders. The candidates got information from student council sponsor Miguel Marrero and learned what they have to do to be able to run for office. Some of you may have already signed petitions for the candidates. Next on the schedule for them is to tape their election speeches to be aired on DVTV.

ELENA: Also coming up soon is Relay For Life. Here is a look at the awesome bands that will be providing the entertainment all night.

CASSIE: Relay isn’t the only opportunity to give back. The Key Club once again is sponsoring the “Spring” blood drive. The club is dedicating this drive to Mrs. Jean Kennedy, our school nurse. Because of the support from heroes like you here at DV, Mrs. Kennedy is living proof that you are saving lives. Look for the “information and sign up” table in the cafeteria through Friday the 22nd. If you are 16 years or older please consider giving the “gift of life”, donate in honor of our nurse and caregiver!

ELENA: Support Grad Night by eating at Rumbi’s Island Grill until Sunday April 10th.  Just put your receipt in the clear box that says “DV GRAD NIGHT” at Rumbi. Seniors, the more money you raise, the more prizes for the raffle at Grad Night!!!!

CASIE: Seniors and juniors who are interested in obtaining a parking permit for the 2011-2012 school year listen up. Applications are available through the DV Bookstore webpage. Next year’s Seniors can purchase their permits the week of April 18th and next year’s juniors can purchase their permits the week of April 25th. Parking is assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Seniors and juniors who want to secure a space should do so prior to the school year ending in May.

ELENA: All FBLA members attending state competition need to finish testing by today. Please see Mrs. Haynes in C279 after school on Friday to finish testing. Also see Mrs. Haynes for permission slips and grade checks.

CASSIE: Congratulate Brandon Djaja and Jay Min because these outstanding students earned the top two scores in the Local Chemistry Olympiad. They will go on to compete in the National Chemistry Olympiad on Saturday, April 16 against students across the country. Good luck!
