Representing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly referred to as the Mormon faith) were seniors Hallie Parkinson and Alisha Maxwell. They spoke on how their faith helped them to have a successful high school career.  Although both admitted that there were trials throughout the year, they said their faith had kept them strong and ultimately happy.

The Christian faith was represented by senior Jake Otte and English teacher Mr. Matt Bennett.  Otte focused on how his faith had taught him to serve and care about other people, and mentioned a mission trip he will take this coming summer in Colombia. Bennett gave an inspirational speech on how faith had taught him to enjoy life, saying that trust in God allows him to take chances.  His humorous analogy about rhinos helped everyone understand: rhinos have great peripheral vision, but they can hardly see in front of them.  They have to trust that what they cannot see, but sometimes they mess up.  That is why a group of rhinos is called a crash.

Senior Seema Kassab represented the Muslim faith. At first, Kassab had difficulties tied between her faith and American culture. As she has gone through high school, she has realized the importance of her faith and has great hopes for her future and the future of the other seniors.

Senior Priyanka Atreya represented the Hindu faith.  She spoke of not only the peace she finds in her faith, but also the divinity she believes is found in everyone.  Everybody is trying to get to the same place, they just have different ways of getting there.

The evening was inspirational for all involved.  The Baccalaureate part of the final senior send off, and the school wishes them well.

COURTNEY: Me either! Only 5 days left for underclassmen and 2 days left for you seniors.

ELENA: And in these last few days…due to recent toilet paper related events…Administration and staff would like to discourage behavior that will prevent seniors from participating in activities such as graduation and senior breakfast. Courtney Floegel, Seth Barrios and Tristan Ezel have a story on what could happen if you break the rules and use your phone in school

CASSIE: Grad Night should also be on your mind seniors…if you have not turned in your paperwork for it make sure you do so as soon as possible.

Yoasis Frozen Yogurt is having a weeklong fundraiser for Grad Night, which is being held until the Saturday the 21^st. You don’t have to bring a flyer or even mention Grad Night because Yoasis is donating a percent of all purchases to Grad Night.

Go eat some great yogurt and help our seniors pay for their Grad Night!

COURTNEY: In the latest installment of our senior countdown we asked several graduating seniors where they are going to college next year.

ELENA: We are going to miss you seniors! But for all of you underclassmen, the Counseling Office is advising you not to wait in long lines in August.  If you are trying to change your schedule for next year, stop by the Counseling Office before school, after school or during lunch.

CASSIE: Friday, May 20th, is the last day to sign-up for summer school classes…both in seat and on-line.  Stop by the Counseling Office for registration materials.

BROOKE: And in sports…Varsity awards for Track & Field is this tonight at 7pm in the auditorium. Awards will be given to all seniors and any underclassmen that have met varsity performance standards for this season.

COURTNEY: For all of you interested in improving your basketball skills…DV Girl’s Basketball will be hosting a fundamental academy for grades 5^th through 12th. Camp starts May 31st. Flyers are available in the front office so go check it out!

ELENA: Thank goodness all the AP tests are over! If you took an AP this year and have prep books you don’t need anymore donate them to the SAGE Book Resale Program. They will be available next year for students to purchase at bargain prices. If you have any please drop them off at Mrs. Schmidt’s room, C278.

BROOKE: Attention Graduating Seniors!

Here are several important dates and times that you need to be aware of.

Baccalaureate will be held Sunday, May 22^nd at 6:00pm in the Dr. Joe McDonald Auditorium for all of you who are interested in attending.

ELENA: There is a mandatory meeting for all seniors who are planning to walk at graduation in the Auditorium, Monday, May 23^rd at 8:30am. We ask that you be on time and to take care of any debts or book returns you may have before you arrive.

BROOKE: On Monday, May 23^rd at 7:00pm the awards ceremony will take place in the Dr. Joe McDonald Auditorium. This is by invitation but all our welcome to attend.

ELENA: On Thursday, May 26^th there will be mandatory Graduation practice at 7:45am .

Seniors, please remember to be in your assigned classroom by 6:15pm prior to the Graduation Ceremony. Lastly, Thursday, May 26^th at 7:00pm is Graduaton 2011! If you missed any of that important information, go to the bolts of information page on the schoolfusion site.

ELENA: Need to get your car washed? Come visit Yoasis tomorrow between 9 am to 3 pm on Chandler and Desert Foothills parkway and TSTDC will wash your car. All proceeds go to benefit the 10 national qualifiers as they travel to Dallas this summer to compete at Nationals.
