Campus News:

Calling all Seniors!! Members of the Grad Night Committee will be on campus again today registering students. Remember to turn in your forms and payment. Look for them outside the cafeteria during 4th and 5th period lunch. This is the last day to take advantage of the free raffle ticket offer. Don’t forget we are offering Grad Night T-shirts this year. The design is a very cool black T, with a red & white racing logo on the front and back. Wear it to Grad Night and you will earn an additional FREE RAFFLE TICKET! T-shirts are $10 if purchased today. The price goes up to $15 tomorrow! Come check it out today during lunch. Congratulations to the Thunder Speech Theater and Debate Company who competed at the Glenbrooks 30th annual Invitational this weekend in Chicago, Illinois. The Glenbrooks is one of the biggest, most exclusive high school speech and debate tournaments in the nation and our TSTDC represented Desert Vista with the following results:
– Mike Witt and Zaki Aizaz reached the octafinal round in Public Forum Debate, earning them a bid to the Tournament of Champions.
– Brendan Porter – Seminfinalst in Student Congress
– Greg Hietala – 7th place in Student Congress
– Brittany Stanchick – 3rd place in Student Congress
– All three also received a bid to the Tournament of Champions

In speech events:
– Katy Miller was a quarterfinalist in Original Oratory
– Priyanka Atreya was a quarterfinalist in Original Oratory
– Sam Abney was a quarterfinalist in Dramatic Interp
– Alexa Saudners was a quarterfinalist in Dramatic INterp
– Mike Mazzella and Sammi Saunders were semifinalists in Duo Interprataion
– Dillon Olmanson and Holly Nordquist were finalists in Duo Interpration, placing 3rd
– Sam Abney was a finalist in Prose/Poetry, placing 4th
– Rebecca Decarlo was a finalist in Prose Poetry, placing 3rd and Original Oratory placing 2nd (she was the only student from any school to reach two final rounds)
– Anna Gunderson was a finalist in extemporaneous speaking placing 3rd. Her ranking got her invited into the Extemporaneous Speaking Round Robin. There are only 16 students in the entire nation that receive an invitation to that tournament.
– The Glenbrooks Invitational hosted over 1,800 students from 220 schools in 36 states. Of all schools and all students your Thunder Speech Theater and Debate Company placed 1st in the competition.

• Are you interested in being a potential host family for a student from Regensburg, Germany next semester? You will share your home for two weeks, from March 18 to April 3, 2010, but enjoy a friendship for a lifetime. This is an exciting cultural experience. You do not need to speak German! There will be an informational meeting on Thursday, December 3, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in room C-108. See Ms. Smith in the math office if you have any questions or to pick up an application. Students who took the ASVAB career test On November 4th. Your score results are now available for pick -up in the counseling office. There will be a Score Interpretation presentation on Friday December 4th at 7:30am in the Counseling Office Career Center. Come and find out what your scores mean and career opportunities that you qualify for. For more details, see Mr. Matthews in counseling.

Club Meetings:
• Club photos will be taken this week – Thursday and Friday in the small gym. Contact your club sponsor or take a look at the schedules posted around campus for the date and time of your club’s photo. It’s important that everyone be on time for their scheduled time. If you have questions, see Mrs. Coro in A156.

• Mondays are for meetings! The Swing Club meets after school in the cafeteria.

• The GSA, Gay-Straight Alliance will meet today, November 30th at 3:15 in room C-211. All students wanting to be included in the yearbook club picture need to attend today’s meeting.”
• Asian Student Union members—there is a meeting this Wednesday December 2 after school in room C-215. Information about yearbook photos will be given. Once again, Asian Student Union is meeting this Wednesday after school in room C-215.

Sports:
• Several sports teams are getting the winter season underway. Be sure to check the school website for days and times your favorite teams compete.

• Congratulations to the JV and Freshman wrestling teams as they posted 2 solid victories over Highland. The varsity lost a tough match to Highland 33-39. Please come support the team next Wednesday as they wrestle at Mountain Pointe.
• Girls Lacrosse will be holding an informational meeting for players, parents and those interested in joining the club. This meeting will take place on Thursday, December 3rd, from 6-7 pm in Room C-229. Come find out about Girls Lacrosse!
