The one thing teenagers are focused on is self-appearance. How your hair looks, what shoes you wear, where you buy your make-up… I can go on and on about what teenagers are focused on. The one thing that bugs teens the most is weight. Being skinny is the one thing girls want. Fitting into a size zero is something a girl would die for. How do they do it? Sports!
Julia Waterhouse, junior, had the privilege to participate on the varsity girls’ soccer team. She has been playing soccer with Desert Vista for three years on the defensive line. With two-hour practices, these girls have the endurance to do just about anything.
“It is a good way to keep healthy,” she said, “We are always running and moving around the field.”
Another way to keep up your appearance is participating on a club sport. Competitive cheer is a way to kick your butt and make you work really hard. Melissa Winn, senior, has been with Arizona All-Stars for six years. This cheering facility for all ages under 18. Unfortunately this was Melissa’s last year, but cheering for so long has helped her.
“It is a great cardio workout, two hours, twice a week,” she explained. “It also helps with self-confidence and being in-front of a crowd.” She was on senior level 3 Black Magic, she also explained how being on a team helps with bonding, and by the end of the season you’re like a family with your teammates.
Not into sports, or just don’t have the time to go to practice? Every day fitness can help! Walk for twenty minutes a day and you will see results. I’m not trying to sound like those annoying ads where they’re trying to sell you those ridiculous products, just walking can really help. Just plug in your iPod, and walk.
Kristy Bonham, freshman, said, “Just walk once a day, it is better than nothing.”
From school sports, to clubs, to simple fitness, it’s all in your hands. Join a school team and make new friends. Try out for a club team and become a family throughout the season. Participate in everyday walking. Staying fit doesn’t have to be boring and make you want to rip your hair out. It can be fun, while your keeping in shape. Get fit!
