The Desert Vista boy’s baseball program has started their journey to a hopefully good season.
With a record of 1-1-1 (one of them being a tie game), Varsity Baseball may seem not up to par. Luckily, the boys always come together and pick up their game when the going gets rough. This is when the boys need to get together and really dig deep within to come out with a win.
“We come back by believing in ourselves and playing with our hearts,” said senior first baseman, Chandler Ticknor.
In the game against Red Mountain in the beginning of March, the Thunder came back in the sixth inning, when they were down by numerous points.
“In the middle of the game when were down to lets say six to one, coach tells us, that is right where we want them,” said Senior outfielder, Dylan Webb.
In the end, they pulled ahead, winning the game 9-7. Thanks to Hunter Rodriguez and Dereck Grey’s pitching, the game came to a successful close and the team came out with an exciting ad unexpected win.
Although their record may not be very high, it is really all that counts. Co-Captain of the Varsity Baseball Team, Matt Wehrli explains how their record keeps them in the running for making it in to the playoffs.
“Not all games are counted. Games that count towards power points, we are 1-1-1. Every team in the state is ranked and each team is worth a certain amount of points if you win or lose . The top sixteen teams make it to the playoffs,” said Wehrli.
Though logistics may confuse some spectators, all fans know that this team can make a killer comeback.
