NCAA Reviews Students’ Academics

As graduation nears for many seniors, several student athletes consider the next step in their athletic careers as their high school years come to a close. Most will rely upon their sport to take them through college and into their chosen fields. However, students must first pass through the NCAA eligibility center or “clearing house” to assure their academics are sound, and they are qualified to compete at the college level.
The NCAA requires a successful completion of core classes; which include the basic English, History and Sciences. They also require a passing GPA or one that is balanced by SAT scores. The focus on the well-rounded athlete has become increasingly important in the last decade. Several program’s like Texas’s Pass-to-play which was an academic policy imposed on football programs which were practicing fraud within players academic records to keep them on the field.
Desert Vista requires a 3.0 to compete on a sports team, and encourages students to balance their academic responsibilities. Several of our school’s athletes have gone on to play both in college and even professionally. With the school’s prolific athletic history, it is unsurprising that so many of this years graduating athletes seek to continue their careers.
