Pay to Play

Being active is one of the biggest goals in school today. When playing sports for the school to show spirit, have fun, and become active has a price, students are choosing not play to simply save money.
“I strongly disagree with paying to play sports,” said Nick Rodriguez. With the students disagreeing to pay to play sports, some are choosing to play sports because of the cost. “Why should you pay to enjoy your hobby?” asked Rodriguez.
Tyler Rabasca, junior varsity soccer team member also disagrees with this dilemma. “I’ve been playing soccer in every school I’ve been to and every school has made me pay some kind of fee,” said Rabasca.
“What if you get sick? Or end up not even playing?” asked Leanne Marino, freshman. Sports here at DV have many students trying out for spots on the team. Sometimes the best don’t even end up playing the field.
With the fifty dollars it costs to play a sport at DV, students are second-guessing whether or not they should play sports. But with the costs going to equipment, uniforms, and other expenses, students not choosing to play can hurt the athletic department
Paying for playing time is driving the students away from being active and that’s what teachers and parents want these days; is for their child(ren) or students to be active, stay healthy, and be in shape. Doing sports is one of the big ways to accomplish that goal.
