All we hear about is the football team and volleyball team. It is about time that some of the other teams around campus receive some credit too.
The swim and dive team has been doing very well this season. Starting off with the city meet, both boys and girls took first place. As they advanced to regionals, they placed second overall. With the wonderful standings they received, at the state meet they took second overall, right behind Xavier and Brophy Prepatory Academies. At every meet that they have participated in against the public schools, girls and boys have dominated. The last public meet that they had was against Red Mountain. The girls won 120-66 while the boys won 118-68. At the Speedo Classic that they went to in September, the girls placed first and the boys took second. When it came down to the wire, Desert Vista took first place overall.
“I am very pleased with how the team has been performing. Not only have we done very well but we are having fun at the same time,” said Senior swimmer, Alexandra Beckett.\
There have been performing overall as a team but one cannot deny that there are a few standouts among the thunder. This year, Patrick Lombardi has really made an impact on the team. In the 50 meter freestyle, he made his mark at 21.44 seconds. Ryan Dignan, a Senior as well, swam the same race in the 50 meter freestyle in 20.92.
The Thunder Swim and Dive have really been making a splash this year as a whole and as individuals. There is nothing holding them back. Give them a pool and a swimsuit and they are unstoppable.
