Campus News:
• Opening night for the spring musical “My Fair Lady” was fabulous! Don’t miss your chance to see this phenomenal performance in the Dr. Joe McDonald auditorium. Tickets are $10 for tonight’s show that starts at 7:00 p.m. and tomorrow’s 4:00PM matinee. Come out and support the awesome work of the fine arts departments.
• Lip Sync Tryouts:
Student Council will be hosting the first annual Lip Sync Competition on Friday March 26th. If you would like to showcase your superstar performance, tryouts will be held in Library North on Wednesday, March 10th right after school. Come ready to perform with a CD and lyrics of your song!
• Clay Club is sponsoring a school wide contest made by Google! Called Doodle 4 Google, the Google team wants you to design a logo that fits with this year’s theme, “If I could do anything, I would…” You can win a $15,000 scholarship and have your logo featured on the Google homepage for a whole day. The school that sends in the best entries will win $25,000 for technological improvements! Be sure to go to http://www.google.com/doodle4google/ for specific instructions and paperwork. When you finish your entry and fill out the paperwork, turn them into Mr. Honaker in the Ceramics Room (A-149) by March 23. Clay club will choose the 6 best entries to represent our school.
• ATTENTION ALL SENIORS!!! THE GRAD NIGHT COMMITTEE WILL BE ON CAMPUS THIS WEEK ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY FROM 10AM-1PM. WE WILL BE LOCATED ALONGSIDE THE JOSTENS TABLES IN THE AUDITORIUM LOBBY. THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO TAKE CARE OF ALL THOSE SENIOR CLASS ITEMS – LIKE CAPS & GOWNS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND PURCHASING YOUR GRAD NIGHT TICKETS. GRAD NIGHT FOR THE CLASS OF 2010 WILL BE HELD AT THE F1 RACEWAY. THERE WILL BE SO MUCH TO ENJOY THAT NIGHT BEGINNING WITH RACE CAR DRIVING, A CASINO ALLEY, UNLIMITED ARCADE GAMES, A ROCK WALL, DANCE TO THE TUNES OF OUR DJ, WATCH MOVIES, ENJOY THE ENTERTAINMENT FROM A HYPNOTIST AND A MAGICIAN, PARTICIPATE IN THE FOOTBALL CHALLENGE, THE DAY SPA CHALLENGE, AND PIT CREW CHALLENGE. THERE WILL BE AWESOME PRIZES AND GIVEAWAYS SUCH AS AN iPod, TV, COMPUTER, AND CASH! BEST OF ALL– YOU’LL BE ABLE TO SPEND A MEMORABLE NIGHT WITH ALL YOUR FRIENDS! SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!! • The Desert Vista Chamber Orchestra received a Superior with Distinction Award at the recent A.B.O.D.A. Area Concert Festival and will now compete at the State Festival in April. Congratulations Chamber Orchestra!
• The 2009 edition of the NCTE-award winning Desert Vista Literary Magazine, What the Thunder Said, has arrived in the bookstore and is only $5! The Literary Magazine is 141 pages of incredible writing and stunning color photography by Desert Vista students. It only costs $5 and we have a limited number of copies, so pick up your Lit Mag in the bookstore today!
Sports News:
• Desert Vista’s club water polo team is heating up in the pool. Over the weekend the team went undefeated in their first tournament of the season. With the wins, Desert Vista becomes the top team in the state for the water polo. If you’re interested in becoming part of something great, join the club after school today in C-113.
• Congratulations to JV Spiritline who placed 2nd in the State competition this past weekend. While freshmen and Varsity placed out of contention they put in a GREAT effort and did a fabulous job! Congratulations to all the girls!
• The varsity baseball team defeated Sandra Day O’Connor yesterday 9-2 behind good pitching performances from Steven Palestino and Matt Wehrli. Leading hitters for Desert Vista were Ryan Modi who also made an outstanding defensive play, Casey Thomas, Matt Wehrli, Shaun Chase and Patrick Hickey. The Thunder plays their next home game Fri. against Tucson Salpointe after school.
• Freshman Baseball Won 2-0 over Sandra Day O’Conner. Great pitching and defense, huge hits by Nick Farina and Adam Webb. Tyler Viza Threw a one hitter in a great team effort. Go Thunder!
