Campus News:
• Congratulations to JV Spiritline who placed 2nd in the State competition this past weekend. While freshmen and Varsity placed out of contention they put in a GREAT effort and did a fabulous job! Congratulations to all the girls!
• ATTENTION ALL SENIORS!!! THE GRAD NIGHT COMMITTEE WILL BE ON CAMPUS THIS WEEK ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY FROM 10AM-1PM. WE WILL BE LOCATED ALONGSIDE THE JOSTENS TABLES IN THE AUDITORIUM LOBBY. THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO TAKE CARE OF ALL THOSE SENIOR CLASS ITEMS – LIKE CAPS & GOWNS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND PURCHASING YOUR GRAD NIGHT TICKETS. GRAD NIGHT FOR THE CLASS OF 2010 WILL BE HELD AT THE F1 RACEWAY. THERE WILL BE SO MUCH TO ENJOY THAT NIGHT BEGINNING WITH RACE CAR DRIVING, A CASINO ALLEY, UNLIMITED ARCADE GAMES, A ROCK WALL, DANCE TO THE TUNES OF OUR DJ, WATCH MOVIES, ENJOY THE ENTERTAINMENT FROM A HYPNOTIST AND A MAGICIAN, PARTICIPATE IN THE FOOTBALL CHALLENGE, THE DAY SPA CHALLENGE, AND PIT CREW CHALLENGE. • The Desert Vista Chamber Orchestra received a Superior with Distinction Award at the recent A.B.O.D.A. Area Concert Festival and will now compete at the State Festival in April. Congratulations Chamber Orchestra!
• TICKETS COST $100. YOU MAY GO TO THE DV WEBSITE UNDER THE “GRAD NIGHT” LINK AND PRINT OFF YOUR FORMS. BRING THEM WITH YOU ON THURSDAY OR FRIDAY ALONG WITH A CHECK FOR $100. GRAD NIGHT T-SHIRTS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE THIS WEEK. THE COST IS $15.
• This years’ spring musical is finally here. TSTDC presents “My Fair Lady”. This phenomenal performance will held be in the Dr. Joe McDonald auditorium at $10 for every ticket on Wednesday March 10th and Thursday March 11th at 7:00 p.m. and a 4:00PM matinee on Friday March 12. We hope to see you there!
• Looking for something different to do this summer? Try summer school! Classes will be offered at Corona and Tempe High Schools. Classes begin Tuesday, June 1st and run through Friday July 9th. Registration deadline for first session is April 23rd. Classes are available on a first come/first served basis and can fill up fast. Don’t procrastinate—stop by the Counseling office for registration information
• Want to learn how to fly an airplane or maybe a helicopter? What makes an aircraft fly or what does it take to build or repair them? If this interests you, come talk to the East Valley Institute of Technology’s (EVIT) Aviation program Instructor on March 8th during 6th hour in the Career Center. Sign up in the Special Events Binder Today! Learn what it takes to start your career in Aviation while still in High School. You could even earn a Private Pilots License before High School graduation. See your counselor for details or to sign up for either session.
• Many colleges and universities will be on campus soon….stop by the Counseling Office to sign up for visits from San Diego State, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, University of Colorado: Colorado Springs, Arizona State, Waldorf College (Iowa), Grand Canyon University, University of Arizona, and the Paul Mitchell School of Cosmetology.
• The National Honor Society is sponsoring a Penny War to benefit the Society of St Vincent de Paul. Bring pennies to your 3rd hour and place them in the collection jars to earn points for your class. Place nickels, dimes, quarters, and bills in the jars of other homeroom classes to decrease their points and thwart the opposition! The homeroom class with the most points will win a pizza party!
• The 2009 edition of the NCTE-award winning Desert Vista Literary Magazine, What the Thunder Said, has arrived in the bookstore and is only $5! The Literary Magazine is 141 pages of incredible writing and stunning color photography by Desert Vista students. It only costs $5 and we have a limited number of copies, so pick up your Lit Mag in the bookstore today!
Sports News:
• Desert Vista’s club water polo team is heating up in the pool. Over the
weekend the team went undefeated in their first tournament of the season.
With the wins, Desert Vista becomes the top team in the state for the water
polo. If your interested in becoming part of something great, join the club
after school today in C-113.
• The Boys Volleyball team played in the Chandler Wolf Howl Tournament over the weekend; capturing second place. After dropping their first match on Friday, the Thunder rolled up six consecutive victories to get into the championship match before falling to Mesquite in close one. All the boys played extremely well. When you see the following team members around campus be sure to congratulate them: Brandon Tate, Dan “The Rug” Slosky, Sean “Grenade Man” Coffinger, Scott Gavin, Will Byrnne-Quinn, KJ Hoffman, Andrew “The Soup Maker” Gott, Michael “The Highlander” Murphy, Cody Frear, Stoan McNeal, Michael “All Tournament Team” Tilleman, Greg Phlipot, Nick Galvin, Taylor Endsorff, and Michael “The Libero” Cowley. The team is back in action Tuesday night against rivals Mt. Pointe at home. JV starts at 4 with the Varsity following at 5:15. Come check out this fast paced and exciting game and support the Thunder Boys Volleyball team as they begin their season.
• Sunday night, the Varsity B Hockey team began March with a 3-3 tie against Cactus Shadows. Ryan Heintzman initially tied the game at 1. Cactus Shadows scored twice more putting the thunder down by 2. Early in the third period, Kyle Echeverria redeemed himself after taking a head contact penalty by scoring a sniper shot from the point putting the game within a goal. Heintzman scored again tying the game at 3. Goaltender Nathan Cole once again stood on his head making 25 saves. Armand DeForest, Ryan Heintzman, Garrett Pickering, and Kyle Echeverria all had assists. The boys played fantastic and they look to finish the season strong when they play their final regular season game against the North Canyon Rattlers at the Arcadia Ice Arena on Monday March 15, 2010. Game time is 8 pm.
