Campus News:
• Attention HOSA members! If you are planning to compete this spring, you need to come by C170 and sign up for the online test in your competitive event if you didn’t do so last week! Please be sure to stop by Mrs. Musheno’s room after school on Monday or Tuesday to sign up for your competition testing session.
• Congratulations to Paige Peterson, All East Valley Coach of the Year. Coach Peterson led the Thunder Boy’s Golf Team to a State Runner Up finish. When you see Paige around campus, please congratulation him. Go Big Blue!!
• It is finally that time of the year again, The musical auditions. Come try out for this years spring musical, My Fair Lady. Auditions will be held January 11, 12, and 13. That is Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. My Fair Lady has a big cast, so the more people who audition the better. We all hope to see you there!
• The GSA, Gay-Straight Alliance, will meet Monday afternoon at 3:15 in room C-211. All are welcome.

• Attention all Rio Salado Dual Enrollment Students: Spring registration for Rio Salado is ongoing. Students who need to register for spring Rio classes should see their Rio teachers for registration instructions. Students who have had a schedule change since fall registration need to complete a drop/add card to correct the section number. A reminder for those who registered last fall….Spring tuition is due. If you haven’t received a bill, please access your account at my.maricopa.edu and pay through the financial summary link. Please see Mrs. Hoffman in C-265 before or after school to return registration forms and complete Drop/Add Cards no later than Monday, January 11.

• ASU, U of A, Grand Canyon Univ, Toni and Guy Academy and Empire Beauty School will all be on campus this semester. Stop by the Counseling Office to sign up for their visits.

• Are you interested in a career in cosmetology? If so, you won’t want to miss the Toni and Guy presentation on Thursday, January 15! To attend, sign up in the Special Events binder in the Counseling Office at least two days before the event.

• Do you have a new Ipod, Iphone, or cell phone? Please consider recycling your old one in the Orchestra Room A115. Drop off your hand held old equipment and we will keep the environment safe by recycling it for you. Don’t forget room A115 it’s near the auto shop.

• Juniors wanting to exceed on the Spring AIMS tests must request an exam in person. Stop by the Counseling Office before school, after school or during lunch. February 1 at 3:30 PM is the LAST time to order a test.

• Desert Vista and Mountain Pointe High Schools, in conjunction with the University of Arizona, will be holding a college financial aid information night at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 in Desert Vista’s Dr. Joe McDonald Auditorium. Parents of students planning to attend any college or university are welcome to attend to learn more about scholarships, the FAFSA form, college loans, work-study, etc.

• All FBLA members please see Mrs. Haynes by 1-15 for Region competition Information. Our next meeting will by on 1-15 after school in C279. It is not too late to join for this year’s competition. Come to the meeting and find out what competition is about.

• The Swing Club is meeting today after school in the dance room, come and dance with us.

• Are you the competitive type? Do you like science? There are several opportunities coming up to represent Desert Vista at state competitions for science! If you are good at all types of science, you work well under pressure and you like excitement, come by Mrs. Musheno’s room, C170, after school on Tuesday to find out about competing on a team in the Science Bowl this year. We’ll have a college-level Science Bowl competitor stopping by to give you some tips and techniques to dominate the competition! Or maybe you would rather compete in Science Olympiad, where you can choose a specific event that fits your particular skills and prepare in advance. Check in with Mrs. Douglass for more information about Science Olympiad! Both the Science Bowl and Science Olympiad take place on Saturday, March 6 – so you can only join one team! Registration is underway, so sign up today!
• If you are interested in neuroscience and the brain, we need you to represent Desert Vista at the Arizona Brain Bee on Thursday, February 11 at Midwestern University! Stop by Mrs. Musheno’s room, C170, to pick up the free study materials and sign up – you could win a $2000 scholarship and a free trip to the national Brain Bee!

• All students who are going to the Cadaver Lab at the Arizona School of Health Sciences, this is a reminder that we will meet at 8 a.m. in the bus turnaround Thursday, January 14th.
