Campus News:
Congratulations to seniors Tinsley Andrews and Matt Yalung for being named Desert Vista’s winners of the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. This award recognizes students from across the country for their scholarship, athletics and service.
Students who took the ASVAB career test On November 4th. Your score results are now available for pick -up in the counseling office. There will be a Score Interpretation presentation on Friday December 4th at 7:30am in the Counseling Office Career Center. “Bringing the World Together, One Friendship at a Time” Are you interested in being a potential host family for a student from Regensburg, Germany next semester? You will share your home for two weeks, from March 18 to April 3, 2010, but enjoy a friendship for a lifetime. This is an exciting cultural experience. You do not need to speak German! There will be an informational meeting on Thursday, December 3, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in room C-108. See Ms. Smith in the math office if you have any questions or to pick up an application.
The City of Tempe Special Olympics Program is looking for Volunteers to assist their athletes at practice and competition in the following Sports: Speed Skating, Basketball and Cheerleading. Please see Mrs. Hinds in the Counseling office for more information.
Want to help underprivileged children and earn easy community service hours? Donate to the SAGE Maricopa Book Drive. Please bring books for children grades K through 6. These books can be new or gently used. Drop-off boxes can be found in the library and Mrs. Schmidt’s room, room C278. Four books equals one donation community service hour. Bring your books through the month of November and help a child in need!
Do you like cans? Do you like driving? If so, bring in canned food to your homeroom class; the class with the most cans wins a lunch and your teacher will wear the can suit for a day. Many families are in need of food throughout the holiday season … this is your opportunity to help out.
Be sure to keep checking the Special Events Binder in the Counseling Office. The US Air Force Academy, ASU, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Mesa Community College, Grand Canyon University, University of Advancing Technology and University of Arizona will all be here before Winter Break. Remember, you must sign up two full schools days in advance in order to attend.
Attention all Seniors! Don’t forget we are offering Grad Night T-shirts this year. The design is a very cool black T, with a red & white racing logo on the front and back. Wear it to Grad Night and you will earn an additional FREE RAFFLE TICKET! T-shirts are $10 if purchased before December 1st. Come check it out today during lunch.
Grad Night information is also available on the DV website home page. Club Photo days are coming Dec. 3 and 4. Club sponsors and officers- be sure to check with your sponsor for your club picture day and time or take a look at the signs posted around campus.
Club Meetings:
Hola estudiantes! Start your thanksgiving holiday off early this year. Join Spanish Club today after school in Ms. Thue’s room, C248. We will then meet in Guadalupe to give our adopted family a Thanksgiving feast. It’ll be a blast and a great way to practice your Spanish. Meet TODAY in room c248 right after school!!!
Desert Vista has a Sign language club. We meet every Tuesday at 3:15 in room C-176. Come learn sign language, it isn’t too late to join us.
Sports:
Preseason track has started. If you are planning on joining the Desert Vista Track Team in the spring, or just want to keep or get into shape, this is a great way to do it! Open to all! Please see Ms. Cline for more details.
If you play football and are not in a winter sport, the first meeting will be Tuesday after school in the locker room. the days of workouts for the off-season will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. See you at the meeting.
