Campus News: Tempe Sister Cities Hosting Opportunity
“Bringing the World Together, One Friendship at a Time” Are you interested in being a potential host family for a student from Regensburg, Germany next semester? You will share your home for two weeks, from March 18 to April 3, 2010, but enjoy a friendship for a lifetime. This is an exciting cultural experience. You do not need to speak German! There will be an informational meeting on Thursday, December 3, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in room C-108. See Ms. Smith in the math office if you have any questions or to pick up an application. Congratulations to senior Sean Gormley. Sean has been chosen as Desert Vista’s nominee for the Herff Jones Principal’s Leadership Award. Sean continues in the competition for the top prize of $12,000. Good luck Sean.
The City of Tempe Special Olympics Program is looking for Volunteers to assist their athletes at practice and competition in the following Sports: Speed Skating, Basketball and Cheerleading. Please see Mrs. Hinds in the Counseling office for more information.
Want to help underprivileged children and earn easy community service hours? Donate to the SAGE Maricopa Book Drive. Please bring books for children grades K through 6. These books can be new or gently used. Drop-off boxes can be found in the library and Mrs. Schmidt’s room, room C278. Four books equals one donation community service hour. Bring your books through the month of November and help a child in need!
Do you like cans? Do you like driving? If so, bring in canned food to your homeroom class; the class with the most cans wins a lunch and your teacher will wear the can suit for a day. Many families are in need of food throughout the holiday season … this is your opportunity to help out.
Be sure to keep checking the Special Events Binder in the Counseling Office. The US Air Force Academy, ASU, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Mesa Community College, Grand Canyon University, University of Advancing Technology and University of Arizona will all be here before Winter Break. Remember, you must sign up two full schools days in advance in order to attend.
