It is commonly known that it is not a good idea to be under the influence on the school campus. The strict drug policy states that if someone is selling, using, or is in possession of non-medical substances while on DV grounds, the district will take whatever legal means they can in order to stop it. In this situation, “non-medical” means not using the substance for treatment or to cure disabilities, diseases, or other conditions that require over the counter medication.

In this situation, “non-medical” means not using the substance for treatment or to cure disabilities, diseases, or other conditions that require over the counter medication.
The Governing Board thinks that the distribution and possession of drugs are not only dangerous to your personal health, but that they are hazardous for the welfare of the school and the community. Betty Yu, a freshman, states that she strongly agrees with the drug abuse policy: “Sharing and using illegal drugs is a serious problem, since it is dangerous to your health, and Desert Vista is right to have such punishments in regards to it.”
The consequences of using non-medical drugs can vary based on the situation, but in all cases the parents of the student get contacted right away by administrators. They will possibly be subject to removal from the school campus, as well as prosecution. Also, if the student has been suspended from school for a long period of time, in order to return to school they will need to take and pass a drug test proving that they are clean.
“The rules are fair,” says Yu. “If you get caught using drugs there needs to be consequences.”
For future reference, if it is a dangerous substance banned by law, an inhalant, hallucinogenic, anabolic steroids, or even any prescription (unless permission to use in school is granted) it is included in the policy.
