And the Litterbugs Come to Town

When it comes to the environment, keeping it clean is the number one goal.
The students are expected to follow these guidelines, but haven’t really been following through when there’s trash all over the ground. Even though it is only the fourth week of school, many students are not taking the initiative to throw their trash away after lunchtime. This is causing health and safety hazards to all. Even older students are taking notice in the mess.
“I’ve seen trash everywhere. It’s been smeared on walls, which makes it gross, and it brings bugs. It’s just general laziness when people decide to litter. Also, there is a lot more trash outside than there is in the inside cafeteria,” said junior, Kelsea Moore.
People who are choosing to litter, especially during lunch, know that there will be people who pick up after them when they are through, which can be unfair to our custodial crew. Students who are just throwing their waste onto the ground, are probably unaware of how it affects our environment, and some of it is disturbing to people.
“No one wants to see trash all over the place. People are so lazy these days, so they choose to throw it on the ground with the idea that someone will clean up after them later, and that they don’t have to,” said sophomore, Briana Lin.
If less people littered, then there would be a cleaner environment to spend our time in. Littering is one of the most common habits here in America, and all people have to do is stop, one school and litterbug at a time.
