Cheaters Never Win

A discrimination factor has impacted all students, and it all has to do with one word: cheating. This is the case because the future of America has developed cheating into an art. These crafty students perform certain actions, such as looking over a person’s shoulder, writing notes on a piece of paper, or even on their hands, in order to successfully cheat without getting caught.
According to surveys in the U.S. News and World Report, 80% of “high-achieving” high school students admit to cheating and 95% of cheating high school students said that they had not been detected. Desert Vista High School students are on this list, and while most of these students are not caught, some of them are. This one act of deception could ruin a student’s grade and future.
“They get a zero on the test and then the student and I discuss [it],” said Mrs.Kriel, a DV math teacher. “I want them to tell their parents first, and have their parents contact me if they have questions or comments. A zero devastates their score. It may drop them an entire letter grade.”
A teacher can be a voice of reason in this situation, but it is up to the student to respond to that voice and choose the correct path. It is true that students at DV have cheated, but there are others that are highly against it.
“Cheating is something that shouldn’t be done. I personally do not support cheating, but I can’t make others feel the same,” exclaims Jean Hsu, a junior.
In this situation, it is wise to get the male perspective on this as well. Males and females have certain viewpoints on major issues in society, including cheating.
“Cheating can only hurt yourself as a learning student. The “A+” on a test is like dirt wrapped in gold; on the inside you know nowhere near anything people think you do,” said Rakan Abuwandi, a sophomore.
Students all over the world have cheated, and some have been caught. The way to not get caught, though, is to not cheat in the first place. It destroys a grade that someone worked so hard to maintain. Many students do not condone cheating, and hopefully others follow their lead.
