Hello DVHS Parents,
Students have been working extremely hard in their classes. Many meetings have taken place informing them of the vast opportunities of getting involved at Desert Vista High School. It has been a pleasure to work with them on building a strong start for the school year.
On August 21, 2009, we released students early due to complications with the air that could not be rectified in a timely manner. Parents who provided their email addresses on the Desert Vista website received communication prior to dismissal. Students contacted parents and a letter was posted on the DVHS website, as well as, a copy given to each student before departure. Transportation was also provided. We recognize that most of you have forwarded your email addresses to your child’s teacher(s); however, those email addresses are used for grades and class information that are manually inputted into our system. Prior to August 21st, our teachers were asked to send their class rosters including parent emails to be manually inputed into our VAX system. The Tempe Union High School district is researching a product that can systematically manage our communication needs. Our staff is committed to communicate with you and have agreed to work diligently to provide the email addresses so they can be inputted into our mass communication distribution server. We want to assure you that in case of an emergency, we have a plan in place that includes strategies to communicate with parents efficiently and effectively. I want to thank you all for your cooperation and understanding for the decision that was made on August 21, 2009.
Desert Vista High School hosted the Sadie Hawkins Dance recently. We had great attendance and the majority of students behaved and had a fun time. I would like to thank the members of Student Council and Mr. Marrero, the sponsor for organizing the event and the designing the decorations. Parents we want to thank you for communicating with your children about choices. At times, students make inappropriate decisions that must be disciplined by parents, administration or life lessons. When we have school functions, students must understand that all school rules apply at any school sponsored event (on or off campus). Students under the influence of illegal drugs, narcotics or alcohol will be suspended. Ten days minimally will be the school discipline along with successful completion of a counseling program before being permitted to return to school. Lastly, students will be suspended from attending future dances within a semester or up to the entire school year. Students may be sited by the Phoenix Police as, “minor under the influence”. Of course, this may result in court fees and revocation of privileges. Unfortunately, children’s lives have been lost because of poor choices. I am asking that you continue to partner with us, speak with your children and remind them of the importance of their choices as young ladies and men of Desert Vista High School!
Respectfully,
Dr. Anna Battle, Principal
Desert Vista High School
