BROOKE: Christmas break is almost here DV…only three days to go. But before the final bell rings on Friday…we must all face finals. Just a few reminders to help you come prepared for the most important test of the semester. Avoid last minute cramming and make sure to study ahead of time. Get at least 8 hours of sleep each night before the big day. Make sure to eat a healthy and nutritious breakfast the morning of the test. And finally, make sure to drink lots of water throughout the day, and pack an extra snack to stay full. No one wants to hear your stomach grumbling…

BROOKE: Go support DV’s undefeated Women’s Soccer Team over the Holiday Break as they take on Mountain Point right here at home…the game will be on Tuesday at 6pm.

BROOKE: There will also be a 3A Hockey game this week. Go support our All Star Team at The Ice Den…competition starts at 3:30 and the game starts at 5:20

BROOKE: There will be a short meeting today after school in Mrs. Calo’s room C230 for all girl’s lacrosse players.

BROOKE: Congratulations to Desert Vista Women’s Varsity soccer team for winning the Championship of the annual Tempe Diablos Classic Soccer Tournament this past Friday! The team beat Corona 3-1. Desert Vista Women also won last week as they went 5-0 in the Diablos tournament with only one goal scored against them.  Kelly Watson scored 2 goals for the Thunder in the first half. Midway through the second half, Jessica Johnson scored to make it three for the Thunder.

Come out and support the Thunder Soccer, Tuesday, December 20th home against Mountain Pointe!

BROOKE: This year finals are Thursday and Friday of this week. Periods 1,2 and 3 are Thursday with the final bell ring at 12:30. And Friday periods 4 and 5 will be during the first 90 minutes during the day 6 and 7 following with the final bell again ringing at 12:30 officially starting winter break.

BROOKE: There is a new club here at desert vista…film club. Gabby Newell, Anessa Blanco, and many have others have been hard at work creating a thriller movie called Timorous State. It takes place here at home at our very own auditorium where supposedly there is a rumored ghost haunting it. We decided to send out a team to investigate it. Here is their fantastically creepy trailer.

BROOKE: Kevin Zheng and Steven Hines will be presenting a physics talk on the secret inner life of transistors, diodes and semiconductors after school tomorrow in Mrs. Musheno’s room C170. It is open to anyone who is interested

BROOKE: Due to popular demand…the deadline for the LIT 800 has been extended. Potential entrants to the LIT 800 now have until Friday January 6th 2012.

BROOKE: All year Latin club has been meeting doing different activities and celebrating different ancient Roman holidays and festivals.

ELENA: Congrats girls soccer with a 1-0 win over Highland last night in the semi-finals, thanks to a goal by Rachel Ressler. The girls swept their bracket with 4 wins and were not scored upon all week!

BROOKE: DV soccer is on fire this season! Congratulations to both the men’s and women’s teams! The undefeated DV Boys Varsity Soccer Team beat Dobson High on Monday with a score of 1-0 and Red Mountain yesterday 2-0…in the first two games of the Diablo Soccer Tournament at Tempe Sports Complex. Come out tonight and watch the Thunder take on Hamilton at 4:00 PM on Field 3. Go DV soccer…

BROOKE: and to the undefeated DV Women’s Soccer team…way to go. They beat Mesquite with a score of 2-0 last night…and on Monday night devastated  their opponent 12-0!. Come out and cheer on the Thunder tonight as they take on Basha at Tempe Sports Complex at 6pm, field 4.

BROOKE: Tomorrow boy’s basketball plays Vista Grande at home. To gear us up for the holidays, the theme for this game is “ugly holiday sweaters” Come out and support boy’s basketball at 7pm in the large gym.

BROOKE: Also Don’t forget to go online sometime this week to vote for Michael Arredondo for Arizona’s Player of the year.  You can access this link through the DV website, or on facebook through the event. Currently Michael is at 44%, trailing 1st place who has 45%.

BROOKE: The Key Club pink yogurt lid donations are being collected this Friday. If you have been collecting, be sure to wash off and bring your lids into the DV library ASAP!

With every lid donates 10 cents towards breast cancer research and can make a difference!

BROOKE: TSTDC will hold auditions for the upcoming Senior One Acts tomorrow after school in the black box theater A174.  The One Acts will be performed January 25th through the 27th.

BROOKE: During this giving season you can show your friends you care by sending them a Holiday Candygram! The Junior Class will be selling them for only $1 in the cafeteria during both lunch hours until tomorrow this week. To send a Candygram, you will need to know the 3rd hour classroom of your friend.

BROOKE: A great way to raise money for your club or organization is to buy a Fresh Cut Christmas Tree on the corner of 32nd and Chandler and 48th and Ray. Let them know you are from DV and what club or organization you belong to.  They will donate $10.00-15.00 per tree to your club.

BROOKE: Asian Student Union is hosting another meeting today. Come to room C-272 after school for fun activities and Asian culture.

BROOKE: Before we look at the calendar for more going on this week, Congratulations to the Desert Vista QuizBowl team on their terrific tournament play last week.

BROOKE: On Wednesday the DV Quiz Bowl team traveled to Verrado High School and both the A and B teams were victorious in all three matches, so they are currently in second place right behind Brophy Prep’s A team in the Cactus League tournament series.

BROOKE: On Saturday we took three competitive teams to ASU’s Winter Tournament, and our B team captured the first place title after battling both Desert Vista A and Scottsdale BASIS A teams in the final playoff rounds.

BROOKE: DV Boys soccer continued their winning ways last night as well with a 1 to 0 win over Corona del Sol. Jack Abernathy scored a goal in the first half and the team carried out a good defensive performance to hold Corona the rest of the game. Catch DV Boys soccer tonight at 6pm as they play at Mesa.

The Desert Vista Dancers present “The Polar Express” there will be two performances of this great presentations…the first will be tomorrow at 7pm…and then again on Friday at the same time.

BROOKE: Congratulations to the DV Women’s Soccer Teams for posting victories over Mountain Pointe last night. The JV won 2-0 thanks to goals by Hannah Gavin and Madison Woodmansee. The varsity was victorious with a decisive 2-0 victory with goals scored by Rachel Ressler and a PK by Kelly Watson.

BROOKE: DV Boys Soccer also crushed Mountain Pointe with a score of 2 to 0 in overtime. Goals for the team were scored by Cesar Sandoval and Jack Collier. Congratulations to both teams.

BROOKE: Congratulations to DV Varsity Football team as they came home with another victory…qualifying them for the State Championship. It was a great game against the Basha Bears with an ending score of 42 to 32.

BROOKE: The Desert Vista Thunder Marching Band members, staff and parents lined the courtyard yesterday morning to honor the bands second year as state champions. This is no small achievement. Although the whole band was recognized, Jeff McCleave was recognized individually for making it into The U.S. Army All American Bowl Band.

ELENA: The DV canned food drive has started this year…and the hopes are to fill those boxes up.  Remember…the winning third hour class gets a pizza party.  This video was put together for us two years ago…but it gets the idea across.

ELENA: Congratulations to senior Julia Thatcher who has been selected as Desert Vista’s nominee for the ASU Leadership Scholarship.  Julia now continues in the competition for a $36,000 scholarship.  Good luck Julia.

ELENA: The Freshman Class Council is proud to present the annual Battle of the Bands competition tomorrow in the courtyard.

Doors open at 6:45pm.  Admission is 5.00, or 3.00 with the generous donation of two cans of food. Come join us for DV’s finest bands, rappers, solo artists, and special guest HUSH.

ELENA: DV marching band has had a great season this year…including their second State championship win in a row. Our first year class found out a little more about one important member of our Band…Lauren Scott. Check this out.

ELENA: Thank you Chase Bowkie. Although the band seasons has ended the winter guard season has just began.   The award-winning Desert Vista Winter Guard is holding a clinic next week for anyone interested in the upcoming competitive season. The clinics are next Monday and Tuesday from 6-9pm.

ELENA: All athletes who are interested in participating in track and field or preseason should attend the meeting Wednesday in the cafeteria at 3:20.  If you are unable to attend see Coach Cline in the Science Workroom.
