A dedicated group of Desert Vista students have been brought together by their common love for the ocean.
Sarah Gaston and Ms. Roller lead the club in their effort to spread awareness about the deep blue sea.
“Our main goal is to get as many people interested as possible and to make a significant difference in the field we’re interested in” Said Gaston, President.
In their endeavor to save the ocean and all its creatures, the Environmental Club holds frequent fundraiser such as carwashes. The most recent was held on the weekend of April 30 and May 1st. With each fundraiser, they donate $150 to the Ocean Preservation Society. They also have raised enough to adopt two wild dolphins named Mozza and Melmon.
Mozza is short name for Mozzarella. He has been observed many times by the L.A. Dolphin Project Research Team and only in the coastal waters of Santa Monica Bay.
Melmom is a female observed exclusively along the coastal waters of Santa Monica Bay. Melmom is a mother and the L.A. Dolphin Project Team has seen her in company of her calf on several occasions.
